Here is my recommendation in a nutshell: Get this book, it is well worth the cost.

I started this morning with plans to write a very detailed review of the book, providing my views on the contents of each chapter. During the process of rereading the book and writing, I realized that I can give my views of the book very succinctly without going into much detail and this is what I have decided to do [and then watch Masters on TV :-) ]

One can get some/most of the information on Medicare from the net and also from government supported organizations like SHIP [...]. However, the book has it all in one spot, reading it will put you at a higher level of knowledge, and some of the specific advice it gives (such as the ones below, for instance) _alone_ will pay for the book many times over, if you are in that situation.

1. If you do not join Medicare Part B when you first become eligible because you have a creditable employer sponsored plan and then you decide later to _voluntarily_ leave the employer plan and rejoin Medicare Part B, you _are_ eligible for the Special Election Period. If someone in the Social Security Administration (mistakenly) says that you are not, tell them `taint so', because `taint so'.

2. Get one of the _specific_ Medigap plans mentioned to prevent Part B Excess charges.

Understanding and being able to communicate the various parts of the Medicare program is a challenging task. Jae Oh describes in ordinary terms the interconnection between the federal program and various types of supplemental insurance programs in a way the average person can comprehend. There is a lot of free information available, however this book is a must read for the health care professional who will advise patients on how to maximize their senior health care coverage---excellent book!.

I am in insurance, and have been looking for some time for a book about Medicare that I can recommend to my clients and to family and friends. The author, Jae Oh, has taken a very complex topic and in simple, expressive language breaks down a very complex topic. Thank you, Mr. Oh, for a book that I will be happy to recommend.

The universe of books that purport to give you advice about Medicare is large. The difference between this and other books about Medicare is that it's the only one that I've seen that really lays out key decision points in terms of consequences and strategies. I live near a large senior-only community, and I've heard the complaints about Medicare and a few vague stories about some of the mistakes people had made. It wasn't until I read this book that I understood what they were talking about. The amazing thing is that I'm pretty sure that people who have made and will make the mistakes that the author is describing might not even appreciate their mistakes until it's too late.

"Maximize Your Medicare" is very clear and concise in terms of understanding the numerous options we have under Medicare. For someone like me, who has great difficulty understanding "Governemnt" garble, I found it not to be cumbersome in detail and the use of examples very informative. The author has presented the content so that ANYONE who reads the book will not have difficulty knowing what to do when selecting their Medicare options. It is much better to use this book as a guideline than to try sifting through the mounds of solicitations you receive in the mail and listening to the ad nauseum ads on televison and radio. Just remember, anyone that sends you solicitation after soliciation puts their monetary acquisition first...not you.
